WHAT IS SPORTS THERAPY?

Sports Therapists work with the soft tissues of your body, manipulating, and stretching, relaxing tight and injured muscles. Techniques such as deep friction and myofascial release help to rebuild the soft tissues and restore balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Electrotherapy modules maybe used and a exercise rehabilitation program recommended.

With rest and time the injury pain may disappear but a build-up of scar tissue can leave muscles weak and prone to re-injury, sometimes leading to more serious long-term conditions.

In addition to treating the symptoms it is essential to look at the causes of each particular injury. Using a variety of rehabilitation techniques to improve core stability, proprioception, posture and muscle imbalance, the likelihood of the injury reoccurring is significantly reduced.

Certainly if you are unable to perform at your best, you may be more at risk from other more traumatic forms of injury. For example, a sportsperson who is "carrying" an injury may not have their usual level of agility. The result might be that they suffer an injury because of not being fully prepared for the demands their sport puts upon the body.
